All you need to know about the stone of love
Rose Quartz is one of the most used gemstones. It is very well known for its healing properties and is often associated with different kinds of love. Jewelry made from these pink stones goes back thousands of years and never lost its popularity. Enough reason to take a closer look at what Rose Quartz is and how you can use it.
What is Rose Quartz and how is it formed?
As the name suggests, Rose Quartz is a rose-colored type of mineral quartz. It occurs in different shades of rose. The spectrum goes from very pale opaque whitish rose to deep pink.
Quartz is a magmatic stone formed when hot magma from deep down in the Earth is pushed towards its crust and picks up different minerals on the way. The further the hot magma rises, the more it cools down. During this process, some of the elements and minerals within are purified while others bond together. Silicon mixes with oxygen, and quartz crystals begin to grow.
The rose or pinkish color develops if titanium or dumortierite is present when the quartz crystals form. It creates impurities that make the stone appear translucent and rose-colored. Depending on the composition of all minerals involved, colors will vary.
There is also a transparent version of Rose Quartz. It occurs when magma picks up minerals quite late on its travel to the Earth's crust. It is believed that the color is caused by an irradiation-induced center in the quartz. This type of Rose Quartz, also known as Pink Quartz, is much rarer than the opaque version.
This whole crystal building process is extremely slow. It takes millions of years for authentic Rose Quartz to grow. There are estimates that it can grow about one atomic layer per year or - making it easier to grasp - it takes about 10 million years for two centimeters.

Impact on our emotions
Rose Quartz's meaning and usage vary slightly throughout different cultures. But they all agree that the stone connects to our heart and our emotions. Healing energy
Rose Quartz is believed to help its wearer to attract love and keep it. It is said to help relieve the effects of trauma or crisis and can improve the quality of sleep for children and adults through its calming influence.
Some even suggest the mineral is helping with circulation. That it can boost neuron connectivity and accelerate healing from physical injuries. Never put the healing properties over the medical advice of a doctor, though. Only use it as an addition and not as a replacement.
Use of Rose Quartz in Meditation and Feng Shui
Place Rose Quartz crystals in the southwest sector of your house or apartment. That area represents love, marriage, and personal relationships. Those can be supported through the presence of the pink stone.
You can also position stones in your bedroom on the bedside table. They are believed to create a gentle, loving energy and to help you recharge and relax. Often the stones positioned in the bedroom are heart-shaped and placed there in pairs. A single one is also fine. But according to Feng Shui, it should not be more than two pieces.
Rose Quartz as a birthstone
Rose Quartz is the secondary birthstone of January. And it is also associated with the zodiac Taurus, which covers the period from April 20th to May 20th. If you were born in one of these two periods, you are especially receptive to the healing powers of Rose Quartz.
Rose Quartz Jewelry
Rose Quartz is a semi-precious gemstone very often used for making jewelry. It has a hardness of 7 on the MOHS scale (an index to measure the hardness of minerals). - For comparison, a steel nail would be classified as 6.5.
Therefore jewelry made with Rose Quartz is quite durable. However, other gemstones or sharp objects can still cause scratches on the surface. When storing your Rose Quartz jewelry, it is best to make sure to keep it away from such harder gemstones to avoid scratches.
Further, due to the large quantities available and easy accessibility, jewelry made from quartz is relatively affordable. Besides the fact that it is excellent value for money, it does not make sense to forge these stones. So it is super unlikely you come across synthetic, fake Rose Quartz, which is a big plus. However, some manufacturers use pink polish during the manufacturing process to enhance the pink shimmer. We prefer to keep it natural and love the pale stones as much as the more colorful ones.
Saying this, the color of Rose Quartz is very stable and will not fade in heat, direct sunlight, or when washing. Opposed to this, Pink Quartz is highly sensitive to ultraviolet light. It is best to keep it out of direct sunlight as it could otherwise lose its color. The only way to possibly restore its color is to expose the gemstone to irradiation.
Where can you find Rose Quartz?
Rose Quartz can be found in pegmatites - igneous rock- and quartz veins in many places across the world. In the United States as well as in Europe and India they mine beautiful variations of this semi-precious stone. However, the most relevant sources these days are in Madagascar and Brazil.
The translucent version of the quartz crystals exists in all sorts of shapes and sizes. From tiny fragments to pieces that weigh many kilos. Some even more than a ton, which are cut into small portions for us to make beautiful jewelry from it for you.
Pink Quartz can only be mined in pegmatites. Currently, the main source for this variation of rose-colored quartz is Brazil.
To sum it up
Rose Quartz is a widely used, powerful crystal. It enhances your ability to receive love from others, love people close to you, and your self-love - our highest good.
With its soft pink shades, it looks great with any skin tone. It has been used in jewelry already for hundreds and thousands of years and never lost its ability to impress. Rose Quartz jewelry is timeless and should be in the collection of every gemstone lover.
